Why Book Authors Need Video Marketing


 

Authors are sometimes afraid of video. They don't like being in front of the camera. They don't know what to say. They don't understand why it matters. They don't understand technology or simple actions relating to video. Despite these obstacles, authors should use video marketing for their books. Businesses also should use video marketing. Here are some reasons why.


  1. Building a Brand – You have to distinguish your book from so many others on the market. A good way to create a brand for your book is through video. You can hire video marketers or you could do it yourself with YouTube. When you create a YouTube channel and making it look like your books, you start to build your brand. While video is important, you also need to send press releases, use social media and do digital marketing to create a brand.

  2. Ranking Higher – YouTube videos rank higher than print content on Google. If you create a channel and post them to your Amazon author page and your Web site, your book will rank higher in search engines. This will allow your audience to find the book and buy it more easily. When you aren't a best-selling author, you need to rank as high as you can to attract readers.

  3. Connecting With Readers – People want to get to know the author behind the picture on the back of the book. When you go in front of the camera and talk about things in the book, you connect with your readers and those watching the video. You are authentic. You should emotions in the video that can't be seen through the cover. Readers like to know about you as a person. Have you noticed how shows about celebrities home lives do well? People like to see the real person. Small businesses can connect with consumers when they use video marketing.

  4. Attracting Right People – When you have a video channel, it is possible that you could attract the right people to get your book featured on the news, a cable show or somewhere else where you could sell a lot of books. All it would take is for a viewer to share your video with a producer or an executive. Next you know, you are being invited to appear on a national show.

  5. Buying on Impulse – Having a video channel is like having a weekly commercial. When people see commercials, they are more likely to buy on impulse. If your video has calls to action, you could be selling your book to viewers who buy it on impulse. This is great for getting views and improving your Amazon ranking.

  6. Building a Following – Subscribers to your video channel will become potential readers for your second and third book. It is a wise move to create a database of readers and connections. You might need them later for a second book or for advice. You also might be able to help those people in some way down the road. Small businesses also want to build a following and subscriber base.

  7. Getting Online – Today, everything is online. It is important to have video marketing because you have to show you are on the computer. You have to be found online and video is perfect for online marketing. It also gives you a presence even if you don't have a Web site but all authors and small businesses should have a Web site.

Every summer when I was young until my parents sold the house, we would go to Cape May, N.J. The house was built by my great-grandmother. It had two three-bedroom apartments, a one-bedroom apartment over the garage and a studio under the garage apartment and next to the actual garage. My grandmother lived upstairs until she died. Settings Give You Time and Place

  In addition to my editing , writing and marketing , I also coach writing for fiction and nonfiction . Many people are unsure how to start. I like to start with characters and setting. When you begin a novel, you have to decide on a setting. It is more than a place. Settings also include time of day, seasons and the year a novel takes place. Settings also could be a state of mind. For example, sometimes, novels are set in people's minds where the main character has created a world. Sci-Fi and Fantasy use people's minds as a setting a lot. Inception or Ready Player 1 are two movies that are primarily in people's minds.  All my novels take place in Philadelphia in modern day. The times and seasons fluctuate depending on what the story is. Many are near the Delaware River, which is the above picture.
