In June, rainbows are used for ugly references to people who do things they shouldn't. Instead of using rainbows as symbols for that, try using rainbows for inspiration for your writing.
1. Beautiful Colors -- If you have ever seen rainbows after a storm in the sky, the colors are vivid against a dark stormy sky. These can make you think of colorful descriptions for your settings. Everyone knows the seven colors of a rainbow (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple and indigo). However, the colors of the sky can range from a bluish gray to a deep charcoal when a rainbow appears. Those bright colors against the deep charcoal can be impactful.
2. Resilience -- They also can represent resilience of your characters. When a rainbow appears, it is usually after much destruction has happened. In your stories, the characters might have had to endure something similar and came through the problem with stronger life. They are shown to be resilient. In addition to fiction, rainbows and resilience can show up in nonfiction writings too.
3. Hope -- In the Bible, the rainbow appears after the flood and 40 days of enduring rain and destruction. It is a symbol of God's covenant, which provided hope to the people. Rainbows seen in the sky today often give people hope, especially when they appear after a flood or hurricane. For your fiction, characters can feel hope with the rainbow. In nonfiction, you could write about someone who had shown great bravery and provided hope to others in a community.
4. Rights -- Rainbows can be symbols of rights of human beings or Americans, but they are not symbols of a certain kind of rights. Instead, rainbows show that all colors are part of the human race and all have rights to live, be free and praise God. However, people have turned the rainbow into a symbol of rights for just a few.
Seeing rainbows in the sky in June is harder because of the extra daylight we get. Therefore, when we do see one, it becomes all the more impressive. I recommend that when you see a rainbow, take time to look at it, consider its meaning and write about it. Also, thank God and science for having that rare glimpse into something beautiful. I recommend against using rainbows in your marketing. They could backfire on you.
