Add Prayer to Your Business Day, Writing Life


 This week is Holy Week. It is the week we walk with Jesus as He goes to the cross to die and save us from our sins. It is more important than Christmas week. As business owners, we can learn from this walk to Calvary. Here are some ways you can reflect this week and improve your writing or business marketing.

1. Add Prayer to Your Routine -- This week and every week, you should include prayers in your routine. This week is more important, but you should be doing it anyway. When you invite God into your business life, it becomes easier to get through the daily crises. God will direct you on how to market your business too. In addition, adding prayer to your routine allows your writing to come alive. You will get inspiration that you didn't already have. You might move your characters into a new direction. If you are struggling with something, God will help you through your troubles if you ask Him. This is a resource you don't want to forget.

2. Walk the Path -- Look at the stations of the cross. Think about all that Jesus endured for us. Let each station speak to you. Reflect on the pain, fatigue and desire to quit. Then, remember that Jesus did not quit. He fell three times, but He did not quit. If He didn't quit, you should not quit either. Whatever is making you feel like you have to quit, let God know. He will take on your burdens and lift you so you no longer feel like quitting. You might have to go to church to walk the path.

3. Read the Bible -- Think about what our ancestors endured. Think about all the blessings we have today. You might not have clients if you do not listen to what God is telling you through the Bible. You can pick a verse and read it several times to understand it or you could read one chapter at a time. You can reflect on that chapter or what you have read. Whatever you are experiencing in your business might be answered with the chapter you are reading that day.

4. Write a Poem -- When you get quiet and reflect on this week, you might want to write a poem. Writing poetry is a good way to get your feelings on paper, especially if those feelings are overwhelming you. This poem also might lead you to a problem in your writing whether it is a novel or nonfiction. Release those pent-up feelings and let God take you to places you haven't been. It might lead to a publishing contract.

5. Exercise the Body, Mind -- It is important to exercise your body and mind. When you exercise the body, you release endorphins that make you happier when you are doing your business. When you exercise the mind by reading books, cooking something new, doing puzzles or figuring out a tough math problem, you free your mind to be more creative and more innovative. Your writing improves and you are able to deal with issues in business because you think of solutions instead of problems.

How to Write Characters in Your Fiction

    Authors have to figure out their characters first before they begin plotting or creating a setting. Sometimes, the characters and setting come at the same time, such as a lady in Regency England. When authors determine the characters, they are able to fit a setting around them. Here are things to consider when writing characters . Sometimes, authors are unsure how many characters are enough for a story. The answer depends on the type of fiction and author's taste. Fantasy authors often use 10 to 12 main characters to build out a world while romance authors can stick to about four or five. Children's authors use one or two.
